Founders Are Marketers

Whether You Like It or Not

There are two types of founders:

  1. The tech genius.

  2. The marketing strategist.

Sometimes, you find both in one person.

But it’s rare.

And here’s the truth: if you’re the founder, you need to think like a marketer.

Good marketers are always testing.

Every day.

They’re trying different platforms, tactics, and channels:

  • Does video content perform better than text?

  • What happens if I launch a Telegram channel?

  • Do voice notes drive more engagement than link posts?

For me, I just started a Telegram channel.

Now I’m testing how to drive traffic:

  • What kind of content gets them to engage?

  • Do people want my posts, voice notes, or short insights?

On my newsletter, I’m split-testing subject lines.

(One tweak boosted open rates by 10%)

That’s the power of testing.

But if you’re not testing, how are you supposed to know what works?

You’re not.

Period.

Here’s what you should do instead:

1. Copy and Learn

Find 3–5 creators or brands crushing it on a platform.

Study their content, headlines, and formats.

Copy them—shamelessly.

Their results are signals. You need to adapt and test for yourself.

2. Test Everywhere

Your top tweets? Use them as titles for YouTube or email hooks.

Look at competitor newsletters.

What do their subject lines say? What grabs attention?

3. Improve Daily

Once your ideas are live, refine.

  • Can we split test landing pages?

  • Can we tweak hooks and headlines?

  • Can we improve visuals, copy, or pacing?

A great marketer runs the same playbook every day.

They search for 1% improvements—relentlessly.

I knew a marketer who would click through his own funnel daily, asking:

“How can I make this just a bit better?”

That’s the mindset you need.

Launch the initial version, even if it’s not perfect.

But commit to improving it daily.

That’s how you win—by testing, learning, and iterating.

Good marketers build. Great marketers refine.

All founders are marketers (even if they don’t know it yet.)

Keep building,

Jax
